01 · Why toll-free

What a toll-free number is actually worth.

It is not about the cost of the call any more. It is about what the number signals before anyone picks up.

01

You look national

A toll-free prefix says you serve the whole country, not one area code. For a small team competing against bigger names, it removes the first reason a buyer hesitates.

02

The number outlives the office

Move premises, change carriers, add locations — the number stays. Customers, printed material and directory listings never go stale.

03

You can measure the spend

Give each campaign its own number and the call log tells you which billboard, mailer or ad actually produced the call — not which one got the most impressions.

04

It carries credibility

A toll-free line reads as an established business with someone there to answer. A mobile number on an invoice does not.

05

The caller pays nothing

The charge sits with you, not the person calling. On a considered purchase, removing even a small friction keeps the call coming in.

06

It routes like any other line

Toll-free is a front door, not a separate system. Ring groups, IVR, business hours and voicemail-to-email all work exactly as they do on your main number.

02 · Vanity numbers

A word is easier to remember than seven digits.

A vanity number spells something on the keypad. People recall it from a radio spot, a van door or a billboard they passed at 60mph — which is exactly where a string of digits fails.

1 (800) 200-9018
Standard · has to be written down
1 (800) NEW-ROOF
Vanity · remembered from the van
1 (855) TAX-HELP
Vanity · says what you do
Recall

It survives the drive home

Nobody writes down a number they hear on the radio. They remember a word, and they dial it hours later.

Marketing

It works where links do not

Vehicle wraps, billboards, print, radio and sponsorships have no click. A spelled number is the only call to action that works at a distance.

Positioning

It states the category

A number that spells your service tells a stranger what you sell before they have read a word of copy.

Defensive

A competitor cannot have it

There is exactly one of each. Reserving the obvious word in your category takes it off the table for everyone else.

Tell us the word or the pattern you want and we will search every toll-free prefix for what is still available. Premium numbers can carry a one-time acquisition fee, always quoted before you commit.

03 · Local or toll-free

Most businesses should run both.

They do different jobs. A local number earns trust in the neighborhood; a toll-free number carries reach and campaign tracking. Both land in the same Abbax inbox.

06 · Frequently asked

Answers, before you ask.

Can I get a specific vanity number?
Tell us the word or the pattern and we will search every toll-free prefix for what is available. Premium numbers can carry a one-time acquisition fee, and we quote it before you commit to anything.
Can I port a toll-free number I already own?
Yes. Toll-free porting is a RespOrg transfer, it is free, and it usually completes in 1–2 business days. The number keeps ringing on your old carrier right up until the flip, so you lose nothing in between.
What is the difference between 800 and 833?
Nothing, to the caller — all seven prefixes are toll-free and cost the same to dial. 800 is the oldest and most recognised, so genuine 800 numbers are scarce and the good vanity words are long gone. The newer prefixes are where availability is, and a memorable word on an 833 beats forgettable digits on an 800.
Can customers text my toll-free number?
Yes, on Growth and above. We SMS-enable the number and handle the carrier verification for you, and replies land in your team inbox alongside everything else.
What happens if I go over my minutes?
Overage is 3.9¢ per minute on standard plans, billed at the end of the cycle. Volume plans get wholesale rates that step down as usage grows.
Do I need a phone system to use a toll-free number?
No. A toll-free number can simply forward to a phone you already have. If you run Abbax Voice, the number plugs straight into your IVR, ring groups and business-hours rules instead.
